Hotel La Tour was privileged to host a gathering of the Midlands’ finest chefs. Our very own Alex Penhaligon (pictured in whites with black apron) served some classic canape ideas with a modern twist and managed to escape from the kitchen long enough to chat and have his photograph taken.
Alex has contributed three recipes to the new Relish Midlands cookery book which was launched at the hotel yesterday. We were delighted to welcome Chef Andreas Antona, of Simpsons Restaurant with Rooms, Edgbaston, who has earned the description of “the founder of modern gastronomy in Birmingham.”
In his foreword to the book, billed as “Original recipes from the region’s finest chefs”, Andreas writes: “Make no mistake, the Midlands is at the cutting edge of sensational cuisine.”
Andreas, pictured in the foreground of our photograph, arms crossed in classic chef’s pose, writes: “I feel a responsibility to the many great chefs and exceptional producers whose food is featured … They are devoted to excellent food and building an international reputation that will last for many years.”
Also at the launch were Michelin-starred Chef Richard Turner of Turners, Harborne,Tom Court of The Granary, Kidderminster, Will Holland, Chef patron of La Bécasse in Ludlow and Chef Suree Coates of The King & Thai (UK’s Best Thai Cook 2011).
The book has brought together signature dishes from some of the region’s best and brightest, set out with beautiful photography, wine suggestions, and a larder section giving information on where to source award-winning produce from around our region.
Relish Midlands is available, as they say, from Hotel La Tour, good local bookstores and online at Amazon, priced at £20.
