Manchester businesses are playing a key role in helping to establish a new UK hospitality brand.City-based Dragonfly Contracts Ltd, has been awarded a £3m contract to design and fit-out a £24m hotel opening in Birmingham in March. It has appointed Manchester-based interior design company Space Invader as a partner on the project.

Dragonfly and Space Invader join Manchester-based agency Cube 3 which, last year, won a contract to develop marketing strategy, the website and the roll out of marketing material.

The development, by Hotel La Tour, is the first of five new city centre venues planned by the company over the next five years. Some 100 new jobs are being created at the 174 bedroom hotel in Birmingham city centre. The development also has a destination restaurant and bar, street café and conference facilities.

Dragonfly Contracts is leading the fit-out, its biggest hotel project to date. Joe McKenna, Managing Director of Dragonfly, said: “Where possible, we’re supporting UK manufacturers on this exciting project which features a world-class kitchen – the biggest and best in Birmingham – plus a 25m bar, the biggest in town.”

Space Invader Director, John Williams, said: “The Hotel La Tour project is a very significant contract for our business, presenting a very interesting challenge to launch a new concept into the leisure market.”

The hotel has a stylish, modern feel using classic, natural materials such as timber, bronze and brass, in a contemporary way. Space Invader has been working under the design direction of Hotel La Tour’s Operations Director Adrian Colman.

Hotel La Tour is headed up by the former management team of Hayley Conference Centres which was sold to private equity firm Permira in a £358 million deal in May 2007.
