After Hotel La Tour, it’s probably Birmingham’s next most impressive building project.
And a milestone was reached today when the first section of the exterior of the £188.8m Library of Birmingham was lifted into place. The delicate metal filigree has been wrapped around and fixed on to the glazed exterior facing Centenary Square.
In a skilled lifting operation, more panels will be hoisted into place over the coming months.
The exterior design echoes the gasometers, tunnels, canals and viaducts which fuelled Birmingham’s industrial growth. Just like Hotel La Tour, a great addition to the cityscape.
