After a high-octane December and subsequently quieter January, Town Hall & Symphony Hall moves back up a gear or two with an eclectic line-up of gigs, concerts and shows stretching through to August 2014.
This month sees the London Concert Orchestra celebrating the life and work of a great American songwriter in Irving Berlin: From Rags to Ritzes (Tuesday 11 February, Symphony Hall), and Heaven 17 (Town Hall, Friday 14 February) offering Temptation on that most romantic day of the year.
Argentinian pianist Ingrid Fliter marks Chopin’s birthday with a performance of his gorgeous works (Saturday 22 February, Town Hall) whilst the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio open a special year of culture on the same night, a few minutes’ walk away (Saturday 22 February, Symphony Hall).
The incredible Vienna Tonkunstler Orchestra and pianist John Lill play a trio of Beethoven works as part of the BICS 13/14 season (Sunday 2 March, Symphony Hall), and, for the first time in 19 years the San Francisco Symphony led by Michael Tilson Thomas play in the UK (Friday 14 March, Symphony Hall).
Spring 2014 is definitely one for fans of exciting contemporary music, with THSH’s Jazzlines programme presenting a selection of the best emerging and established artists across the city, including trailblazing band Get The Blessing (Thursday 6 March, Hare & Hounds) and the staggeringly talented Spring Quartet (Friday 4 April, Town Hall).
Other fantastic live experiences at THSH to look out for include Salsa Celtica (Thursday 6 March, Town Hall), the Entertaining Ideas weekend (Friday 7 – Sunday 9 March, Town Hall) Rodriguez (Tuesday 11 March, Symphony Hall), Psycho Live (Wednesday 9 April, Symphony Hall) and Frank Skinner (Tuesday 22 – Thursday 24 April, Symphony Hall).
