It’s nearly February already

So we’ve survived the back-to-routine malaise which can strike even the most cheerful as the stark reality of another year hits home.

If you’ve packed away your sparkly shoes, given up alcohol for January (really?) and are struggling to keep your New Year’s resolutions, here’s the La Tour guide to February to keep you and your people happy.

With the festive season behind us, it’s nearly time for another holiday – half term here in Birmingham is from Monday February 17.

Hobbit mad or know someone crazy for all things Mordor? Take a trip to Sarehole Mill, one of only two surviving working watermills in Birmingham. Author JRR Tolkien spent part of his childhood nearby and used the site and its surroundings as the inspiration for The Shire.

Visit Birmingham’s newest open space, the award-winning City Park just a short stroll from Hotel La Tour or soak up the atmosphere in the historic Jewellery Quarter

While away a couple of hours at the Library of Birmingham , the building is a great talking point, there is a schedule of events and many, many books to inspire, engage, educate and entertain.

Run, stroll, people-watch or simply sit and listen to the birds at Cannon Hill Park where you can explore 80 acres of formal parkland and many more acres of woodland.

If you have little people in tow, here’s some inspiration on how to keep them busy this February . Don’t forget Thinktank, Birmingham’s science museum at Millennium Point. You’ll find the great Science Garden reopens this month after its winter spruce-up.
