Hotel La Tour Head Chef Dan Pearce enjoyed a night out with colleagues at Turners Restaurant.
Richard Turner, a passionage chef for 20 years is largely self-taught and maintains his focus is always on flavour rather than gimmicks. He opened Turners in 2007 and was awarded his Michelin star two years later.
His menus continue to delight, attracting the attention of critics and diners alike. Turners was named Good Food Guide Readers’ Regional Restaurant 2013/14 and also takes a spot in the prestigious Top Table Top 100 UK Restaurants 2014.
The food is modern British with French influences and Richard describes the restaurant style as “attentive, friendly, and welcoming to seasoned food-o-philes, and newcomers alike”.
Dan and his colleagues from the hotel’s Aalto Restaurant enjoyed a superb taster menu which included seared scallop served with beetroot, apple, peanut, lime and coriander. Fish followed with roasted bass beautifully paired with pigs head, butternut squash, lemon, basil and a shellfish jus.
The meat course featured meltingly soft, aged beef with oxtail, potato terrine, leek and beef jus and was followed with a board of farmhouse cheeses where any one could surely lose a good couple of hours! But no, it was time to press on with a charming pre-dessert followed by dessert proper.
A plate of chocolate heaven with cream, hazelnut, caramel and Aero, a charming confection. Restrained in its presentation, this course was all about the flavour and medley of textures.
