Birmingham 2014 – What’s Happening In The City This Year?

If you are planning a trip to Birmingham this year or if you are a tourist who is visiting the UK, Birmingham should be at the top of your travel itinerary. Birmingham has loads of events and festivities for the young and the old, the budget traveller or the uber-rich. Let us talk you through just some events going on this year for you to enjoy, but make sure you book up in advance so that you don’t miss out!

If you have a penchant for the drama or the performing arts, how about honing your acting skills and moonlighting as an actor, maybe? All you need to do is join up at the Blue Orange acting classes to be held from the 22nd of Jan up to the 26th of March. Who knows, you might even outshine the Late Sir Lawrence Olivier in your theatrical prowess, once you have been trained by the expert teachers here. If you harbour a deep desire to take the world of stage by storm, this is just the launch-pad and is a great favourite for budding thespians.

For adrenaline or sports junkies, you have a plethora of sporting events to choose from, beginning right from the first week of January and continuing up to the month of August 2014. Whether it is Premier League football games or the All England Badminton Championships, you have scores of sporting events lined up.  Some of the sporting events include Athletics, Motorsport, Basketball, Tennis and the Athletics Grand Prix. Why not see the famous Harlem Globetrotters – visiting Birmingham in April 2014, or if you fancy something action packed, WWE Live takes place in May 2014. Are you a fan of the Lord of the Rings? If so, you can enjoy a guided tour of the city that lodged its creator and one of its more illustrious citizens, the legendary J.R.R. Tolkien.  Ever wondered where all that creative genius came from? Go and see for yourself.

On the subject of movies and the theatre, you could drop in to see Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake from 5-15th February – or travel a bit later and enjoy the musical extravaganza ‘CATS’ in the month of September. In fact you could also revel in the much acclaimed musical ‘Wicked’ known for its fabulous performances and technical wizardry the world over from 9th July – 6th September.

For those intellectuals amongst us, you could arrange a visit to the ongoing ‘Creative minds in Birmingham series’ (21 November 2013 – 19 June 2014). More into fashion? The Birmingham International Fashion Week (Feb 28 – March 1) is where you can find most of the top fashion designers and couture houses come together to offer the finest of fashion this season.

From the ‘Some Cities’ photography exhibition (ongoing until March 2014) to ‘The National Wedding Show (28th of Feb – 2nd of March 2014) – the biggest wedding show in the UK, there are innumerable festivities and events for visitors and tourists alike to visit and enjoy.
