Many celebrities have been announced for attendance at the event, such as JLS, Paloma Faith and even Bananarama. These three headlining acts will be joined by many other celebrities and British icons that support the gay pride event.
Rylan Clark, who was a runner-up on the X factor and one celebrity Big Brother this year, is also expected to attend the event.
The Birmingham Gay pride event generates around £15 million for the city of Birmingham, and attracts over 50,000 people across the weekend. It is therefore very important economic event in the calendar for Birmingham which attracts many tourists from across the UK and even further afield.
Lawrence Barton, who is the festival director, commented on the best ever line up which Birmingham can expect for Gay pride, “As one of the largest Gay Pride events in the UK we are absolutely delighted to have pulled out all the stops this year to present our biggest ever line-up for the annual festival…We’re expecting a record turnout this year.”
It is expected that there will be over 100 artists and DJs which will turn up over the May weekend, as well as many hundreds and thousands of Brits across the UK which will flock towards Birmingham to celebrate the event.
This event encourages the participation of people of all ages. To try and attract more families and seniors to attend the event, the event organisers have decided to introduce a free admission policy for children who are under the age of 10 years old, and seniors who are over the age of 65 years old. It is expected that this will really help to open the event up to people of all ages.
The event will kick off with a large Carnival parade through the city, which will commence at midday on Saturday, 25th May. This will also feature a cabaret marquee, a funfair and many community stalls as well as a dance tent.
Tickets for the event can be purchased from the Southside area of the city in what is known as Birmingham Gay Village, but they also available online for a cost eight pounds per day, or £12 the weekend tickets.
