You’ll wish it was forever autumn with these delicious starters at Aalto

Aalto Restaurant Head Chef Alex Penhaligon has created culinary magic, weaving a colourful spell with the season’s best ingredients to present a great new menu taking us through autumn.

A little something to start? Choose from elegant Scottish

scallops with smoked bacon, cauliflower and squid ink or a warming Mulligatawny, a bowl brimful of beautifully spiced loveliness.

With lentils to give texture and a sense of well-being, it’s guaranteed to get your meal off to a great start as you relax and enjoy the surroundings of Aalto.

Taking the prize for prettiness has to be Alex’s Roasted wood pigeon with beetroot, celery and picked girolles.

It’s a beautiful plate of earthy flavours. Sit back and enjoy: you can just about smell the log fires and feel the crunch of leaves under your feet as you step out on a crisp woodland walk.

A lighter choice as you begin your meal is the Heirloom tomato salad. Strewn with Yorkshire fine fettle cheese, hand-made from fresh whole ewes milk, giving it a distinctive creaminess and subtle taste. It’s beautifully dressed of course. Have tomatoes ever tasted this good? Please try it and let us know…

Need more to whet your appetite? There’s Chicken liver parfait with pink lady apples and golden raisins, plus – a lingering memory of summer and the coast – Dorset crab salad with mayonnaise, fennel and croutons.
