Aalto Restaurant Lead Chef Dan Pearce was delighted to share the hotplate with TV cook and former model Lorraine Pascale.
After a busy day at the BBC Good Food Show at Birmingham’s NEC, Lorraine took a quick break to relax in one of the suites at Hotel La Tour before meeting the winners of a Heart FM competition who attended the exclusive dinner party at Aalto Restaurant.
Heart FM’s drivetime presenter Steve Denyer was host for the event and, after a round of introductions and a glass of warming mulled wine, the guests saw Lorraine demonstrate a starter of crunchy black pepper halloumi dip sticks and a spicy harissa hummus.
The Chef’s Table at Aalto provided the perfect platform as Lorraine prepared the dish from her new book Fast, Fresh and Easy Food.
Lorraine revealed she was inspired to cook by her father and that her daughter is very particular about what she eats: compiling a weekly list of meal suggestions with vegetable lasagne one of the favourites. And Lorraine’s top tip for the perfect Christmas dinner? “Get someone else to cook it!”
The ten winners and their guests were each presented with a signed copy of Fast, Fresh and Easy Food before sitting down to enjoy Lorraine’s starter which was served with a Saint Cosme Cotes-du-Rhone.
Dan Pearce presented slow braised pork cheeks with apricots, lentils and sage, with mash and red cabbage, served with a glass of Altas du Ruesca, Garnacha, Spain.
Pudding was a pear and almond tart with clotted cream served with a beautiful sparking Rosa Regale from Tuscan vineyard Banfi.
